Our dental practice is committed to your family’s health and safety. Dr. Minadeo-Fox provides mercury-free dentistry by using tooth-colored fillings, which are created with safe materials that are matched to the natural color of your enamel. We do not use metal fillings, which are also known as mercury-silver, silver, and amalgam fillings.

Most patients aren’t aware that mercury-silver fillings have about 50% mercury. Ongoing scientific studies with the dental industry reveal findings that some dentists find troubling. In fact, there have been several FDA meetings to discuss the safety of mercury-silver (amalgam) fillings. The potential harm could be significant, but right now, the American Dental Association states that silver/amalgam fillings are acceptable for use in the human mouth. However, many dental practices, including ours, put the safety of our patients first—by only using mercury-free dentistry. Dr. Minadeo-Fox is a progressive dentist who wants to provide quality, effective, and mercury-free dentistry.

Dr. Minadeo-Fox serves our community with mercury-free dentistry because we’re committed to the complete care of our patients with little impact on our environment. Mercury-free dentistry gives us the ability to safely and effectively treat your cavities by using tooth-colored composite resins. These are also known as white fillings. White fillings fit in well with your natural tooth structure, and actually look like a natural part of your tooth. Tooth-colored fillings have the same durability and strength as amalgam, but won’t harm your oral health. And they look good, too!

If you want safe, effective mercury-free dentistry, then visit our office. We can also discuss removal of mercury-silver fillings from your mouth—whether it’s because you want to improve the appearance of your teeth or improve your oral health.

What is SMART?

The Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) All dental amalgams restorations, also commonly referred to as silver fillings, contain approximately 50% mercury, and reports and research are consistent that these fillings emit mercury vapors especially upon removal. The IAOMT has build upon traditional safe amalgam removal techniques such as use of masks, water irrigation, and high volume suction by supplementing these conventional strategies with additional protective measures. These SMART measures include utilization of special equipment along with safe practice techniques applied during the time of removal.

Why use SMART in our dental practice?

Our practice promotes mercury-free, mercury-safe, biological and compatible dentistry. As a member of the IAOMT, we are concerned about the exposure to mercury when amalgam fillings are removed. The process of drilling out amalgam fillings liberates quantities of mercury vapor and fine particles that can be inhaled and absorbed through the lungs and is potentially harmful to patients, dentists and personnel.

Our Concern for our patients’ whole body health is always our first priority and we are committed to updated technology and education for our patients ‘ well-being.

We are proud to be leading our profession in the Northeast Ohio Area as one of the selected practitioners trained and certified to offer this service.
